The best sports handicappers preview tonight’s matchup at Ford Field. The 9-1 Texans travel to Detroit to take on the 4-6 Lions in this Thanksgiving Day matchup. So far the Texans are 7-3 against the spread, and the Lions ATS record matches their overall record. Houston is 4-0 on the road.
Current Vegas Odds have the Texans as 3.5 point favorites, and the total sits at 50. The Lions certainly have something to prove, and will be tested going up against a Texans team who squeaked out an overtime victory Sunday against the Jags. Both public and expert money is being placed on the Texans at a very impressive rate. Again, public and expert money is being played heavily on the over.
The Texans certainly have momentum on their side after a thrilling OT victory against the Jaguars last weekend. Leading the team will be Matt Schaub, who is 216 for 330 for a completion percentage of 65.5. Schaub has thrown for 2540 yards already and has thrown 18 touchdowns compared to his 8 interceptions. This potent offense certainly has a ground game to be reckoned with. Arian foster has rushed for 949 yards, and is averaging 3.8 yards per carry to go along with his 10 touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, Matthew Stafford is 265 for 427 for a completion rate of 62.1. He has thrown for 2988 yards so far and averages 7 yards per passing attempt. Stafford is prone to the interception, throwing 10 to go along with his 12 touchdowns. The obvious factor will be Calvin Johnson, who has 1117 receiving yards on the year, and averages 17.2 yards per catch, and has made it into the end zone 3 times.
The Lions are no newcomers to the Thanksgiving Day stage, however, this does not mean they have faired well in their previous endeavors. Look for the Texans to come out strong after last week’s overtime victory. This could turn into a shoot out in the first quarter.
