MLB Sports Handicappers Preview NY Mets (18-16) at Florida (16-18)

After a rare sports picks day off we return with a solid board for today. The Mets’ offense has renewed production in their lineup starting with B Ike Davis (.288, 3 HR, 10 RBI in 66 at-bats) is a productive rookie, while C Rod Borajas (9 HR) has nearly equaled the total taters (12) produced by Met catchers in 2009 in just 94 at-bats. However, it is their defense that is the main reason they are holding their heads above water so far this season with 19 team errors. All of these positive facts might be moot if tonight’s starting pitcher, Oliver Perez doesn’t get back to his winning ways. In his first three starts, Perez only gave up seven runs on twelve hits in seventeen innings. Now, in his last four starts, he has surrendered ten runs on nineteen in just eighteen frames but the alarming statistic during this period has been his walks (18). Florida’s offense is a touch better in just about every statistical category. Florida’s starter Anilbal Sanchez has been much more solid in his last twenty nine and one third innings only allowing twelve earn runs on thirty five hits.
